This page is dedicated to one of the most innovative inventions in audio production: VST
VST stands for Virtual Studio Technology and was introduced in 1996 by Steinberg. The first version gave the user a virtual mixing desk, EQs and effects for audio tracks that could be recorded and played from the computers hard drive.
In 1999 Steinberg enhanced the possibilities with the introduction of VST2.0 which also included virtual instruments or VSTi's. Now it was possible to take the whole studio in a box concept to the next level. All of a sudden there where synthesizers, samplers and all other kinds of instruments available right inside your computer. And compared to the costs of a real hardware synth, VSTi's are dirt cheap (but not cheap in terms of the sound).

Here is my first contribution to the VST scene: "MicroSynt", a tiny synthesizer plugin I created with Synthedit, which is, while not overly feature-rich, nevertheless useful for some nice sounds.
| - 1 Oscillator, but with PWM modulation for fatness | |
| - clever LFO implementation for nice vibrato effect | |
| - filter with resonance and separate envelope ADSR | |
| - stereo spread effect for wide sounds | |
| - switch for polyphonic or monophonic play | |
| - low CPU consumption | |
| - all parameters controllable by midi CCs | |
| - clear GUI layout for easy use | |
| - comes with 10 presets | |
| - it's free |
Demo mp3s:
- MicroSister.mp3 made by
Cirdan
- Only Microsynt.mp3 made by mtyas
The current version (V1.01) of MicroSynt can be downloaded here (just unzip and copy the MicroSynt.dll file into your VST plugin directory). Have fun! :)
Update (1.01) changes:
- Bank load bug fixed*
- receives now midi on all channels
* unfortunately not compatible to 1.00 patch or song files.
I'm extremely sorry about the bank / song problem... but that was totally changed within Synthedit from 0.61 to 0.81, so I can't do anything about it. To anyone who used the old one in their songs, maybe just rename the new dll to MicroSynt101.dll or something like that, and keep the old dll, so your old songs still load.
Older versions: MicroSynt v1.0 (only for archival purpose, don't use if you don't need it)
